PT 2 deals with protection and departure. The human boundary begins and ends with our skin. Soul and spirit occupy an ethereal sphere. In a vast black space, white clay powder redeems tangible bodies, and gives them a transcendent space of their own. Through the invisible realm of rituals, offering a shield repelling dark forces, the figures bow in supplication and petition for protection. With bodies cut to evade the physical, they present figures extended in an insurmountable barrier. This darkness is light – an immortal horizon with the capacity for a new haven.

Morrison explores through her works the individual's ability to resist and adapt to physical, mental and emotional changes, by seeking discontinuous stories based on real events. An intention to get closer to situations we instinctively reject, by challenging boundaries and giving them a new field of reflection. Through photography, film, installation and performance, she works with themes from trauma, empathy, rituals and stories. Morrison looks at time to understand space, stories to imagine movement, the past to examine identity and pain for transformation.

Laura-Ann Morrison (b.1991) lives and works in Trondheim and Accra, Ghana. Morrison has an education from the Norwegian School of Photography (2013), an exchange at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2020) and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Trondheim Art Academy (2021).
